Hell Hath No Fury
I typically try to stay away from political and religious discussions in situations where they are likely to get out of hand. Consequently, I thought that I would avoid those subjects on this blog unless mentioning them in the most general terms. However, if you are not outraged at this story (specifically at the so-called church), then I think you need help. Regardless of what religion (or not) you practice or what political party you belong to, human decency should be the most important value you possess. If those people don't like our country that much, then they should get the hell out.

Well, this is one entry that I simply couldn't not respond to. On June 4th, I celebrated my last RCIA class, the last of one year and 2 mths of intense teachings about God and Jesus. No where did I learn that God punishes anybody. God loves each and every one of us. He loves us so much that not only did he give us Jesus, but he gave another great gift--free will. It is through that free will as humans that we make the choices we make, which in turn leads to the consequences we must face in society. God does not punish, but consoles us and lets us know that he is there for us--he realizes that we are sinners, we were made imperfect--but if we accepted him, we will be forgiven.
I think - but am not 100% sure - that Pennsylvania just passed a law banning protests of all kinds at all funerals. Or maybe it's about to be passed, or something.
But, yeah. These are the "Christians" making it very hard for the rest of us. Blech.
It's so frustrating that these laws even need to be discussed. This church is being defended by the ACLU (is that right?) as being within their constitutional rights to protest - and I suppose they may be. But, this is just another case of the people in this country acting like total idiots. Why in God's anme (or anyone elses) would you protest at a funeral?
I visited the web address that shows up at the end of the video you linked to (very entertaining, by the way). If you go to the movies section, they have this passage from Scripture:
The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
~Matthew 16:1-4
This struck me as ironic, since they are the ones running around talking about "signs." To me it seems the passage is saying that people who are always seeking out signs are wicked and adulterous -- and isn't that exactly what these people do?
