Not Really in the Spirit

I am trying to help the girls with their Valentine's and am not feeling all that joyful and lovey about it. I mean, TBell had to make 20 and Princess had to make 40 (some for Brownies and some for her class.) They used my stamping paper, which I cut into the annoyingly small pieces that Valentine's usually are, and their own washable stamp pads. I let them use any of my heart-related stamps they wanted to use. I spent $8.48 candy for them to take into their friends. I have to tell you, though, I am not feeling the love. I am feeling very annoyed and stressed and just can't wait for the whole thing to be over with!

(I assure you that I am not conveying my feelings about this to the kids...that's what all of you are for!)

Twenty valentines? FORTY valentines? Man alive! I say everyone gets a candy heart that says "Suck this" and have done with it.

Anyway, Happy Valentine's Day! Baltimore has some icy rain and snow and the whole damn city shut down today. I feel so hardy, having grown up in the Big Buff. These Mid-Atlantic foolz don't know what snow is.

Yay, Ashley! I didn't think you loved me anymore...you haven't commented in so long!

Those people you live near need to get a grip and live through some real weather!

The Boy Wonder had to make 21. I kept putting it off and in the end used a heart-shaped cookie cutter about three inches across as a template to make cards from 5X8 cardstock. We cut out the hearts and then colored them and put on Valentine-themed foamies and some had red or pink glitter glue. A hole-punch and ribbon for tying two Hershey Kisses (red and silver left over from Christmas and kept in the freezer until this week) and we were done.

Entropy Girls required more attention from me - the same cookie cutter traced onto pink felt made little hearts. I sewed on a selection of white buttons to each (most of the buttons cut from Brainiac's discarded work shirts) and then put a white ribbon through a punched hole. Silver glitter glue on the back for the year and the kids' names finished them off. She only had four to do, so this wasn't too much for me.

In each case I was very satisfied to use stuff I had around the house already. Technically, I suppose they cost more than the licensed character cards, but they were also in a sense "free" since we didn't spend any cash on new materials and I don't know what I would have done with the supplies differently anyway.

But, yes, I wasn't so much into it either this year. Maybe it was that Brainiac was away and the weather and blah.

I see! I get flack for not commenting, but look at how long it's been since you posted! I want to know what you're cooking! You don't even have to post recipes. I just wanna know what's coming out of the Johnson kitchen these days.

On the subject of food, have you ever tried Indian? It's quite possibly the best stuff there is. Right now I am eating reheated Palak Paneer from our Saturday excursion to Kitchen of India. Buttery spinach, cubes of Indian cheese, and rice - grand. Maybe this will light a fire under your blogging belt. (Did that make sense?)
